It is a unique name that identifies you on the Internet.

With a domain name, you can create your own website and define your own email addresses.

A domain name consists of two parts separated by a dot " .

The first part usually represents the name of a company(ibm.com, tizoo.com) or the characteristics of an association, group or person(vd.ch, epfl.ch).

The second part specifies the location (.ch, .eu, .de) or the type of activity (.com, .biz, .net, .org) associated with the domain name. This part is called the "extension" of the domain name.
